Bioeconomy covers almost all industrial and economic sectors. Mostly, however, it is based on agriculture, fisheries and forestry, as well as related industries, which produce, manage, or otherwise exploit biological resources (for example, food, feed, fibre, paper, power, chemical, biotechnology industry).
The purpose of the development of the field is to mitigate the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector and help the sector to adapt to climate change, increase the share of renewable energy in energy supply, implement energy-saving measures and reduce the environmental impact of energy production.
In Estonia, the development of the sectors related to bioeconomy belongs to various areas of government of the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, the Ministry of Climate, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
